Wild speculation had suggested the two had come to blows following the Reds' 3-1 Premier League defeat at Leicester City on February 13. Such suggestions were swiftly dismissed by Jordan Henderson two days later, who revealed they had prompted laughter among the squad. 'Joke' decision Liverpool legend John Aldridge has had his say on the Reds' defeat to Everton. "Liverpool got beat. Everton played well. They deserved to finally win a Merseyside derby - but that penalty decision was a joke," said Aldridge in his latest Echo column. "We’ve not had a whole lot going for us when it comes to VAR decisions but that referee - and it was an easy game to officiate overall really, so how the hell he looked at the screen for 10 seconds and gave the penalty, when Dominic Calvert-Lewin has kicked Trent Alexander-Arnold’s head. "I’m not saying it would have changed the game because the Reds would probably still have got beat 1-0 but it just added insult to injury. "Especially when considering what happened at Goodison Park earlier in the season when a goal was ruled out for a Sadio Mane offside late on in that fixture.

"The actual result though didn’t surprise me. It is an ongoing nightmare though. "It was the same thing happening against Brighton, Burnley, Manchester City, now Everton. "They were no different. You can analyse the game all you want but it’s no different. "A complete lack of belief and confidence in the team, which is obvious because of the amount of changes they’ve had to make."
