The intense stench of fire has engulfed Truro as drivers are called out for being inconsiderate and running over hoses used to tackle the raging inferno which has hit the Cornish city. Firefighters were left fuming at the scene by inconsiderate drivers getting in the way and hampering their duties. At around 11.15am today (August 6), a fire broke out at Truro’s Boscawen Park. Smoke from the blaze can be seen from all around Truro, with pictures showing the extent of the fire which alarmed dozens in the city. Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene, following a total of 35 calls to the incident within a few hours of it starting. Those close to the scene say the smell of fire is strong in the air. Crews from Truro, Tolvaddon and St Austell were scrambled to Boscawen Park with the adjoining road closed off to motorists. At least two fire engines are on the scene as of 1.30pm, with an update from the service stating: “Over 35 calls have now been received to this incident and there currently 6 appliances, 2 officers and 1 light vehicle in attendance.” The fire in Truro (Image: Phill Wills) Live coverage of the incident can be found here Jet reel hoses being used to put the fire out, however, have been repeatedly disrupted by drivers who weren’t looking where they were going. The park, in the Malpas area of Truro, is surrounded by several roads from which fire crews were operating. A witness told CornwallLive that firefighters have been having problems with drivers going over the hoses, and knocking the jets out of the ramps.

. And for local residents, while the fire is being put under control by fire crews - as of around 2.30pm the area has been left smelling a bit off. CornwallLive reporter Olivier Vergnault said he could smell the fire from around 300 metres away. “There is ash coming down with the wind,” he added. A CFRS statement reads: “Critical Control began receiving 999 calls at 11:18 informing them of a wild fire in the area of Boscawen Park, Truro. One appliance from Truro was immediately mobilised. The crew on scene have requested assistance from a further two appliances and an officer, which are on their way to the incident from Tolvaddon. “In total, 22 calls have currently been received to this incident. Update 1240hrs - Crews have requested a fourth appliance be mobilised to the scene. An appliance from St Austell has been mobilised and is en route. “Update 1330hrs - This incident is now at MAKE PUMPS 6.
