The branch, which will be in Truro, was originally due to open back in September but didn't. Now an official opening date has been unveiled but not everyone is impressed. There has been a long and difficult history between the Newcastle-based chain and Cornwall - birthplace of the traditional Cornish pasty. The chain's first attempt at penetrating the pasty market in Cornwall was in 2019 when a doomed shop next to Carkeel Roundabout at Saltash closed after seven months of trading. It later opened stores in Launceston and at Cornwall Services, on the A30 near Roche. Read more: Cornwall's chief coroner demands ambulance action after patient deaths Greggs, which specialises in savoury products such as bakes, sausage rolls, sandwiches and sweet items including doughnuts and vanilla slices, opened stores on the Penngyllam Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Launceston in the summer of 2020. The outlet at Cornwall Services by the A30 opened in 2019. Both have remained open and appear successful.

. The national bakery chain told CornwallLive at the beginning of summer that it would be throwing its doors open come September. However, it has remained closed causing locals to speculate it may be having difficulty recruiting the staff it needs. Earlier this week, Greggs refused to reveal why its opening had been delayed. A Greggs spokeswoman would only confirm the store would "open sometime this year". In the past the opening of a Cornish Greggs store was called an "invasion" by Cornish people.
