According to Cornwall Council's Winter Service map, gritters are set to be covering the majority of the county's routes today. In a statement on Twitter, a spokesperson for Cornwall Council said: ''Gritters will be out at 7pm covering east Cornwall including Camelford, Bude, Launceston, Liskeard, Looe, Callington, Saltash and Torpoint on our precautionary salting routes. ''Please drive with care.'' The blue shows the routes which are set to be treat. The red routes have no plans to be treated. Highways England manages the trunk roads A38 and the A30 east of Penzance. It spends approximately £1.5m each year on roads affected by winter weather. This involves salting (known as “gritting”) major roads when there is a risk of ice, clearing snow and reacting to floods and fallen trees.
