PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! After a social media storm blew across the internet with parents coming forward about the poor quality of free school meal parcels, Cornwall Council has demanded answers from the companies which supply them. Images surfaced of food parcels worth as little as £5 containing quartered red peppers, tiny portions of fruit, or in some cases just kilograms of carbohydrates. These parcels are meant to sustain a child for a week on the presumption the family has no other food, and are an at-home replacement for free school meals on school grounds during the coronavirus lockdown. Councillor Sally Hawken, cabinet member for Children and Public Health, said: “The government guidance is promoting the use of food parcels, but these must be of a good standard if they are going to support our families effectively.” Cllr Hawken added that she had been contacted by several sets of worried parents, and that they had sent photos of the parcels. In Cornwall, the Council understands Chartwells, Aspens, and Interserve are the main companies which supply free food parcels to parents on behalf of schools. However, schools which do not work with the Council likely have other arrangements - so other companies will do the job elsewhere.

A voucher scheme, where parents got £30 to spend on food per week, was scrapped - but a similar scheme is being reconsidered in light of the recent controversy.
