PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A former British soldier from Cornwall will stand trial later this year over a Northern Ireland Troubles-related death. Dennis Hutchings is due to stand trial in Belfast on charges of attempted murder and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent over the death of John Pat Cunningham in Co Tyrone in 1974. Mr Cunningham, a 27-year-old with learning difficulties, was shot in the back with an SLR rifle in a field on the outskirts of Benburb in Co Tyrone, as he ran away from an Army patrol. Hutchings, from Cawsand, has previously unsuccessfully attempted to stay his prosecution as an abuse of process, and also lost a Supreme Court bid to have a trial before a jury.

The case has been reviewed recently with a new trial date set for October 4. A pre-trial hearing is due to take place in June to discuss the case progress and Hutchings’ health. Hutchings is currently on bail and his previous court hearings have seen crowds of supporters gather outside the court.
