PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! The recent announcement of how much it would cost to park at the new Chester Market car park caused a lively debate among residents. Many people were outraged at the prices, which range from £3.50 for one hour up to £13.50 for five hours plus. Some likened it to the charges at big city car parks in Manchester and Liverpool. One person said it would be 'cheaper to get a taxi', while another said the prices were "totally discouraging people to come and spend a whole day" in the city. Meanwhile, there were other more positive comments including from one person who pointed to the 'positive' of the provision of night time parking for events at Storyhouse or the cathedral. Upon announcing the prices, Cheshire West and Chester Council confirmed it was designed to 'encourage shorter stays'. It has space for 800 vehicles and replaced the old market car park that opened in 1967. Many criticising the charges pointed to other cheaper car parks both in Chester and the wider Cheshire area. This included the city's park and ride service run by Stagecoach, which costs £2 for a day ticket, and Chester Racecourse. Meanwhile, prices at the Civic Centre car park in Ellesmere Port range from just 50p to £2. These were brought in by Cheshire West and Chester Council in 2018 to 'help support short stay parking in central car parks and encourage longer stay parking at the town’s outer facilities'. And Cheshire Oaks car park remains free of charge while the 900-space Barons Quay car park in Northwich, also run by Cheshire West, is also free to use. Warrington Council recently announced an increase in prices at its car parks, which has seen the Time Square site given a price range of £1.20 for one hour up to £6.40 for four hours plus. Below are the prices for the new Chester Market car park along with some of the others around Cheshire.
