As the economy begins to re-open we need a Metro Mayor that will lead our regional recovery, writes Labour's Dan Norris. I think the role of Metro Mayor will be vital to the city’s post-Covid success and am determined to be an important voice and visible figure on the streets of Bristol. The West of England Metro Mayor covers Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and Bath and North East Somerset. They have a £900 million investment pot and power over skills, transport and housing. It is the same job that high-visibility leaders such as Andy Burnham hold elsewhere in the country. Dan and Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party (Image: Labour Bristol) I am an experienced former MP and Environment Minister who is standing for Labour to be the next West of England Metro Mayor and I believe it is time for new leadership. I have pledged to be a ‘jobs first’ Metro Mayor and plan to get straight down to work with a jobs and skills summit in my first 100 days and am committing to 23,000 new green jobs in my manifesto. The health crisis, has, in turn, led to a jobs crisis, and the climate change crisis has never gone away, that’s why I will create a Green Recovery Fund to rejuvenate the local economy. Dan with his dog, Angel I'm a Bristol City fan and I believe that following the team’s ups and downs since childhood has been the perfect grounding for politics. I'm keen to point out that there are many reasons to be optimistic.
