PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! Former Bristol Rovers attacker Billy Bodin has bid farewell to Preston North End with the winger's contract expiring next month following a frustrating three-and-a-half years in the north west. Bodin moved to Preston in January 2018 after 37 goals in 107 games with the Gas, firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite at the Mem, but the injury issues that plagued his early years as a professional resurfaced in the Championship. The 29-year-old has sustained two serious knee injuries and made just 26 league starts under Alex Neil and, latterly, Frankie McAvoy, including only 91 minutes in the recently-completed 2020/21 campaign. "Thanks to everyone at Preston North End for the last 3 and a half years. Disappointed not to have got much game time since my return to fitness in January but best wishes to everyone connected to the club for the future," Bodin wrote on Twitter. "Looking forward to a fresh challenge.

. Bristol Live understands he was offered to Rovers in the January transfer window on loan, and the player was open to a return to the Mem, but the club was against a move, primarily due to concerns over Bodin's match fitness and injury status. The Welshman retains strong links in the area, with his partner from Bristol and the two having a young family together, and his availability will no doubt have Rovers fans envisaging a glorious return to the city. Billy Bodin pictured in 2017 during his Rovers pomp The Gas are certainly lacking wide attacking players with Alex Rodman, Zain Walker and Sam Nicholson, Joey Barton's only genuine options among those who have been retained by the club. Veteran Rodman and academy graduate Walker were predominantly used by Barton as right wing-backs, and neither are likely to play 30+ games next season, while Nicholson is more effective in a central playmaker's role. Much of Barton's transfer business this summer will also be driven by a desire to sign proven quantities, something that Bodin would subscribe to, but he's said to have at least one Championship club interested plus teams in League One.
