And one part of the Bristol area - Bath and North East Somerset - currently has one of the lowest covid ‘case rate’ in England. The figures show the number of new cases of coronavirus being recorded in Bristol and the three surrounding local authority areas on Thursday, April 8 had fallen to just 30. There were no new deaths from Covid-19 recorded in the Bristol area in the last 24 hours either. In Bristol itself, the positive tests of 15 people were officially recorded by the Department of Health in the 24 hours to 4pm today. At the start of this year’s lockdown, more than 300 people a day were confirmed as catching the virus, but that fell steadily into March. The decline in covid cases in Bristol stalled at around 30-40 a day during March, but the first week of April has seen a continued decline. Thursday’s figure of 15 new cases is the lowest daily total since the end of last September - but back then case numbers were beginning to rise exponentially as the second wave hit. The last day a figure of 15 new cases was recorded was September 27, when 14 people were confirmed to have tested positive for the virus.
