William has visited the Aston Villa High Performance Centre to meet staff from Villa Kitchen, which gives 1000 hot meals a week to local groups & to hear about antenatal clinics that have been operating from Villa Park since the start of the Covid crisis. Aston Villa fan William also got to meet some of the players today. The Duke of Cambridge was filmed laughing and joking with members of the first team squad. The Duke was also introduced to those involved in the antenatal clinics from the Birmingham and Sandwell NHS Trust who made use of facilities at Villa Park during the pandemic. His Royal Highness spoke to Head Chef Chris Morrell, whose team produce approximately 1,000 meals a week for distribution across the city. Later in his speech, the duke told the guests: "Last year, head coach Dean Smith tragically lost his father - a lifelong Villa fan, a matchday steward, to Covid-19. "His loss is just one of the many ways the pandemic has impacted the club over the last 12 months. "I want to offer my sincere condolences to Dean and pay tribute to his extraordinary contribution to the club since joining in 2018. "I know your dad would be very proud. "I'm immensely proud to be associated with a club that does so much through the Aston Villa foundation in support of the community, especially through the pandemic as we've heard today.

“The mission of the Aston Villa Board since the summer of 2018 has been to bring our performance, strength, conditioning, rehabilitation and sports therapy functions up to 21st-century standards. “We have created a new High Performance Centre; an environment suited to 21st-century elite sports. “The High Performance Centre will be used not only by our men’s first team, but our women’s team together with our boys and girls in the Academy, all of whom are based here at Bodymoor Heath.
“This training complex is now one of the finest in UK sport. “Work is continuing, the creation of multi-media analysis facilities, a mini auditorium, individual player coaching and meeting areas – all these final phases will be complete in time for pre-season training in July 2021. “Today, Aston Villa has a training ground it can truly be proud of.”
