AvfcRegan:What’s the latest at VP? Any more incomings? What’s the latest with players up for sale? Contracts? Ashley says: Latest re VP. A lot of work is being done in the tunnel/dressing room area. There's a huge skip outside that area by the players' car park. It's understood Gerrard wants a bigger home dressing room. VP plans will be due to the council later this month. I'll have a check. Incomings, yes, new midfielder should be next following CC exit. Still a little light in there IMO. SG happy with attacking options at present. Players up for sale: Guilbert, Berto, Hause and El Ghazi. No offers yet. Contracts? Villa, hopeful of tying Dougie down, will ask SG at presser. Badger70: With Chukwuemeka's departure now confirmed, do you think Gerrard has his midfield target already lined up as it was just a case of freeing up a squad place before getting a target in? I'm sure all involved would have been working on target(s) for a while now. Any names leaked? It seems to me Villa are very good at keeping transfers in and out under wraps. Nobody saw Chelsea move for Chukwuemeka, for example. Big chance for us Saturday to get 3 points with Bournemouth struggling with their squad. Hoping for a first day win! Ashley says: 100 percent, Badger, midfield search will now accelerate. Villa didn't envisage Chelsea swooping in as aggressive as they did. AC Milan were haggling around for ages. Happened really quick and Villa will look to fill Carney's void now in midfield. Gerrard stressed he wanted a new CM last month so Lange has been given his remit. Still a little less than a month to go before window closes (September 1). No names in the frame just yet, sadly. Villa very good at keeping business under wraps. This time 12 months ago Danny Ings was on his way to Bodymoor! Fancy us to whack Bournemouth on Sat. Just hope we reinvest it into a new midfielder, I would be throwing everything at Leicester for Tielemans but would also love Sangare… Ashley says: Yep, kudos to Gerrard and Purslow for pulling this one off. The manager took the exact right stance telling Carney to stay back at Bodymoor. Purslow thrashed out £20m deal. Brilliant business. Midfielder now top of Villa's shopping list. Sangare more likely than Tielemans, re your choices. AaronT77: What’s the situation with Luiz? I’ve read that Milan are still sniffing around or is he more likely to sign a new contract and how does this all affect any midfield incomings (given that Carney has also left)? Secondly - with Traore on the surplus list - if he left would be light in the front 3 positions with OW, DI, CA, PC, LB and EB only? Do you think there will still be another forward / attacker incoming? Are there any potential midfielder or attacker names on the wish list? Ashley says: Luiz, I'll be chasing more clarity on this at the presser later. Understand Villa want him to commit to a new deal but he's happy as things stand. Situation is relaxed between player and club. Carney's exit will speed up Villa's pursuit of new No.8, for sure. Villa will analyse forward options after the first few games. It shouldn't be a problem to move Traore on. The winger is still happy to fight for his place and prove SG wrong but looks unlikely. Didn't have pre-season he hoped as Bailey raced ahead of him in pecking order. No names on either list but midfield/attack are the two final pieces of Villa's jigsaw, as it were. Kevirishvillian: Is there anyone interested in taking AEG and BT? I do think there's a player in BT but it's like he's made of glass. Bertrand Traore during the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Burkina Faso and Senegal at Stade Ahmadou-Ahidjo Ashley says: Not at the moment re AEG or Berto but think it shouldn't be a problem as the weeks tick down. Plenty of clubs in Europe will fancy them; wonder if Dean Smith will come in for El Ghazi given the relationship they had? Traore, clear talent, might well need a fresh start. I like him as well; has remained injury-free all summer but has failed to make a real statement when SG wanted him to do just that. Utv: I am a little disappointed by the playing-time Kienan Davis has been given in his time at Villa. I actually think he looks like a very good player. He is powerful and offers something that neither Watkins, Ings or Archer have. I would love to see him get minutes when we are chasing a late goal. He can hold up play to let our midfielders get into position, win the ball high and hold on to it, and he offers strength inside the oppositions penalty area. I would love to see him playing with Ings/Archer. He hasn't scored a lot of goals, I know, but he could be our Emile Heskey, creating chances for our poachers. Ashley says: He's had another hamstring setback. I envisage him playing for the 21s vs Boro tonight (6pm). Intrigued by his situation; a totally different option to OW, Ings, Cam.

.. would probably suit playing in a two better in SG's 4-3-1-2 system. We'll see what happens with KD as the weeks tick down before deadline day. Totally get where you're coming from, by the way. UTVFC: Like you, I can't wait for Saturday. My concern is SG seems determined to stick with Coutinho over Emi, who had a much better pre-season. And also I feel both Chambers and Konsa have stepped up to be the ones to play along with King Carlos… Ashley says: Yep, that's a concern amongst majority of Villa fans, Phil vs Emi. Love to see them play together but not perhaps away from home. Looks like Phil has the edge in terms of SG selection at present, do feel for Buendia who's been great. Would like to see Emi in a No.8 position, really busy isn't he. As for centre-backs, yep, wouldn't mind either Chambers/Konsa starting alongside DC. Intrigued to see if Mings can come back fighting now and will be a big player for us and find some form. No longer one of the first names on the team sheet. PVILLA: I heard you mention my comment the other day… all these crosses we put in and Watkins and Ings are under 6ft… we need prime Benteke! I don't understand the 2 n10s either, it's not FIFA and we don't play through balls to a pacey striker. I'm not sure what the formation is meant to do apart from protecting the middle of the pitch… just your thoughts mate please? Ashley says: You make a great couple of points, PVILLA. Hard to gauge what Villa are trying to achieve in pre-season so the proof will be in the pudding on Saturday vs Bournemouth. I'll be looking closely at the system, shape and approach to it. We've got 6 games this month; we'll soon see what's what in terms of shape/identity. C36: Although Carney has now gone, do we still need to see one more senior midfielder leave before we bring anyone in due to numbers in that position? Also, what type of midfielder do you think Gerrard wants, there has obviously been links to Kondogbia and Sangare which would suggest physicality but, to me, it seems as though we would need someone to come in and control games better than our current options. Fabian Ruiz at Napoli is in an interesting situation. Could you foresee us looking to exploit that situation or another of that style as an alternative to a more physical option? Ashley says: So we've got Tim/Naka/Kamara in No.6 positions; Sanson/JJ/McGinn/Dougie fighting for 2x No.8 spots... I'd say one more will add some real competition in there. You've got to factor potential injuries as well... Losing Naka last season derailed us. Type? A No.8, someone who keeps the ball. Ball retention is massive for SG and Villa for the season ahead. Fabian Ruiz, interesting shout. No names in the frame just yet, c36. Great points raised, pal. Webby1874: Do you deem McGinn and PC almost untouchable under SG? For me, McGinn hasn't reached the levels… is that a position issue and EB offers more to the team than PB. Is this also the beginning of the end for Mings? Feel he’s been harshly treated… John McGinn of Aston Villa (Image: Baptiste Fernandez/Icon Sport via Getty Images) Ashley says: Yes, I'd say that to be the case as things stand. Gerrard LOVES them both as we know. McGinn has had a quiet pre-season but he's a battler and will look to kick on now given Kamara's addition and the fact the shackles will be off him. The captaincy could be the making of him as well as the responsibility would just be what's needed to add a new level to his game. Yep, Buendia's work rate is better than Coutinho's but the Brazilian is capable of the sublime. Beginning of the end for Mings? I don't think so. He'll look to come again and could thrive now with no armband... World Cup year so he'll be desperate to find some form. G_81: Worry for the defence if Diego Carlos plays LCB. Yes, he's played there regularly in recent seasons but it leaves you lopsided and potentially vulnerable on that side. Coupled with the fact TM is our only one with organisational skills and, for me, it has to be Carlos and Mings at Bournemouth. PC/EB and OW/DI I think are 50/50 shots. For me, Dougie potentially starts with McGinn in the 8 roles. Slightly confused as to why, when we are in the market for an '8', we seem to be getting linked with everything but (Sangare, Gallagher, etc)... Any word on the dozen or so youngsters that could do with being loaned out? I felt Cam could do with a full season one but we know he's staying, surely we should be seeing movement in terms of Swinkels, Bogarde, Feeney, Chrisene, Tim Iro, Young, etc shortly? Ashley says: Hi G, interesting points re selection ahead of Bournemouth. I'd quite like to see Mings start on Saturday, to see how he reacts to skipper change. He'll have extra incentive against former club, too. We'll see. The youngsters possibly heading out: Yep, those you've mentioned. Villa assessing options; loan clubs have to be right. Intrigued to see the U21 line-up vs Boro tonight.
