This is the moment a 25,000-volt cable came crashing down from above a Birmingham railway line creating a spectacular fire with sparks, flames and smoke. The incident took place on the Stechford to Aston freight line, near Nechells Park Road in Nechells shortly before 1.30pm on Thursday (June 23). Onlookers watched in horror as the cable came crashing down, creating an incredible electrical light display flashing blue and yellow. That was followed by a huge fire, with smoke billowing down the track. A spokesman for the rail infrastructure company said: “A bracket carrying a 25,000-volt overhead electric cable which powers trains broke earlier today on the Stechford to Aston freight line. “It caused an electrical fire to an area of grassy embankment which was safely put out by West Midlands Fire Service. No passengers were disrupted by the incident.
