Grealish missed the last three months of the Premier League season with a shin injury before returning against Everton last night but earned widespread plaudits after taking his game to a new level this term. With six goals and 10 assists to his name in the top-flight, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes recently named Grealish as one of his rivals for the Player of the Year award. Smith-Rowe recently revealed he looks up to Grealish after the Villa talisman's stunning season with club and country - and Redknapp admitted there are similarities between the players. Smith-Rowe, 20, was in fine form as Arsenal beat Chelsea 1-0 on Wednesday, grabbing his second goal in as many games with a first-half winner. “He’s an exceptional player and he travels so well with the ball,” Redknapp told Sky Sports after the game. “There’s certain players, and you don’t want to compare them, but when Grealish has the ball at his feet they look very similar in the way they move. It’s a nightmare to defend against.” Read the full story here.

Villa player ratings vs Everton Villa played out a goalless draw with Everton in a game that had a real end-of-season feel to it. It was the second time in just 12 days that the two sides faced off after the Premier League's fixture-scheduling debacle following the postponement back in January. In terms of the match itself, Villa finally welcomed back star man Grealish after his 12-game, 89-day absence with his niggling shin injury. The captain was given the final 20 minutes and, within seconds after coming on, showed what Villa had been missing with a series of purposeful dribbles at Everton's backline. Villa, meanwhile, were indebted to Emi Martinez in the second half after the Argentinian saved brilliantly from Dominic Calvert-Lewin's one-on-one while, minutes later, stopped Ben Godfrey's volley towards his near post. The South American pulled off another stunner to thwart Calvert-Lewin's header in the 86th minute as well. In the end, it was a drab draw on a damp evening in B6 with Smith's side having just three matches remaining inside the next 10 days before the season's over. The billionaire duo have invested heavily since their takeover of the club from Tony Xia three years ago with the aim of making Villa a Premier League powerhouse once more. Villa’s transfer spend under their ownership is approaching £300million and head coach Smith is set to be backed handsomely in the transfer market again this summer. Funds have also been made available for improvements at the club’s Bodymoor Heath training ground while plans are in place to expand and update Villa Park. Villa are on course for a comfortable mid-table finish this season having shown a vast improvement from last term’s brush with relegation. With quality additions to Smith’s squad this summer, pushing further up the league table is the aim and Souness feels Villa have the right owners to do so. Read the full story here.
