Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Jimenez, 31, has desperately been trying to prove his fitness in the last month to make Mexico’s World Cup squad. He did that at their pre-tournament training camp in Spain last week and the striker stepped off the bench in their opening fixture in Qatar. Jimenez appeared for the final 20 minutes of Mexico’s draw with Poland, who would have won the match had it not been for Robert Lewandowski’s second half penalty miss. Jimenez was making his second appearance for his country in the space of a week after a lengthy period on the sidelines for his club.
