PremierLeague-News.Com - Steve Bruce has tipped new West Bromwich Albion midfielder John Swift to continue making a splash in the Championship after his free transfer
PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! John Swift will make his Hawthorns bow on Monday evening when West Brom welcome Watford to the Black Country - and Steve Bruce has backed the summer addition to light up the Championship again, while spearheading the club's promotion bid. Swift's form at former club Reading - he contributed to over 70 goals in more than 200 appearances across a six-year spell - prompted Albion to bump the playmaker to the top of their list of summer transfer priorities. The 26-year-old was in attendance on the final day of last season as Albion swept relegated Barnsley aside. Little did he know at that stage that, by the time their next competitive fixture swung around two months later, he'd be opening his account for the club at Middlesbrough. "He probably got lost in the Chelsea system, he's been at Reading but he was probably 21, 22 in the Chelsea revolution," Bruce said. "He can count himself very unlucky because he's a talent, a real talent, and he's been at the top end of the Championship for a long time. "Physically you don't think he'd put in the yards, but he does. His stats are really high, which you might not think he does. He covers the ground, scores a goal, makes a goal. How has he not had a chance? It was a no brainer. To go with it, you do all the other stuff as well - you find out what he's like as a character and a lad. He ticks all the boxes." Swift and fellow summer acquisition Jed Wallace were quickly earmarked by Bruce and the Albion recruitment team quickly after his appointment as manager in February.

. Despite a host of rival clubs offering them moves, both players - who knew each other from Portsmouth - ended up at The Hawthorns and both have already proved why Bruce was so eager to recruit them as a pair. "As soon as I walked through the door, in February and March it was like 'what can we do? Let's get into the Bosmans'. The stand-out two were the two we got. I think they must've had six or eight Championship teams in for them," he explained. "Jed was the one - I thought he was odds on to go to Forest. Getting promoted maybe changed their tune a little bit. We were just delighted to get the two of them." Watford on home soil is no mean way to begin your new season in front of your own supporters but, with Swift and Wallace in tow, Bruce is confident that he has addressed the creative deficiency which haunted the club last season. He believes that, more than anything, the two newbies will entertain - and that can be no bad thing for a fanbase which has been deprived of that for more than a couple of years. "They got a glimpse of them in pre-season, but they'll enjoy the pair of them," Bruce added. "Every supporter is the same - they like to watch players who have something a bit different. He's got that. They'll be very good players for the club, I'm convinced of that."
