PremierLeague-News.Com - Nursery manager Teresea Cattell has been at the nursery since 2004, and is one of many dedicated and long-standing team members
PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! It’s a reassuring sight for many parents or carers when dropping their child off at nursery- familiar and friendly faces that greet them day in, day out. The ability for both parent and child to interact with the same people is crucial in relationship building and developing strong social bonds, as well as establishing trust between everybody involved. It can be a lot harder to build on these lasting relationships if there’s an ever-revolving door of team members at the nursery; while spontaneous play is also fundamental to learning and exploring, finding the happy medium between spontaneity and routine isn’t an easy tightrope to walk. Kids Planet Solihull have seemingly struck the right balance at their nursery, with many of their team members being familiar faces for over a decade, some having seen every sibling in a family through their doors. As nursery manager Teresa Cattell explained: “I think that’s something we can be really quite proud of, the fact that lots of team members don’t leave, and really become part of the family. “We also get to know families too- quite a few of our children are here from recommendations from either parents whose children are here at the moment, or parents of children we’ve looked after in the past. “We currently have a child here whose older brother and sister have been with us- and their older sister is now about seven or eight.” Kids Planet is a family-owned, award-winning group that now has over 100 nurseries across the UK. In 2020, they took over the Solihull site near Birmingham, which was a well-established nursery in the community for many years prior. Conveniently located for parents commuting into Birmingham city centre, the setting benefits from excellent transport links as well as easy access to nature in the form of a local park 10 minutes walk away- a place the children love to explore. Teresa has worked in childcare for over 20 years and has been the manager at the nursery in Solihull since 2004, so she’s seen first hand how greatly parents and children can benefit from having a familiar presence throughout their early years education journey. The majority of our staff have been here for over 10 years, and I’ve been here for 19 years,” she said. “We have a few team members who have almost grown up with us, so to speak. They started their work experience with us at 15, and then joined us when they left school to pursue an apprenticeship with us- and they’re still here.” This long-standing working relationship between team members is a benefit to the children too, according to Teresea as it produces a ‘comfortable environment’ where there’s a camaraderie between those working together. “Everybody has their own skill set, and we all know who to go to for a specific request that we perhaps know the other person is better at. “Some of us may be more creative, some of us might have more hands-on experience and many of us are parents ourselves and know what it’s like to put your children into a nursery- it’s a lovely mix.” This blend of experience and creativity aligns with the Kids Planet ethos of providing an enabling environment with the space and resources for children to play, explore and learn, and ‘follow their own interests’. With lots of loose parts and open-ended resources, children have an opportunity to exercise their creative and critical thought process, encourage discovery, collaboration, risk taking and movement.

. Teresa explained that this can make the transition less stressful, and take any residual fear out of the move for both parents and children. “In the past we’ve had teachers from the local schools- there are about four in the area- come in and do a storytelling session, and bring in resources that can help children prepare for school, that they then leave behind so the children can refer to these things whenever they feel like it,” she added. “The aim is to make the transition for them not so daunting, because they’ve been introduced to the concept quite some time beforehand. If you were an adult starting a new job, how nervous would you be? And as an adult you’ve had loads of experiences of new situations but a child hasn’t. "It’s the same concept for a child, so we’re bringing it to their level, gradually introducing elements so it’s not so daunting for them and helps the transition into a school setting.” It’s not just Teresa and her team that feel having a friendly rapport with one another, and with the children is beneficial to the nursery feeling like a family; parents have also mentioned how reassuring it feels when dropping their children off, and what a positive environment it creates.

She has an excellent relationship with all the staff and talks about them all outside the nursery. “She loved all the different resources they provide, such as the small world animals and the large messy play activities. The manager and deputy are great and very approachable if I have any queries. Keep it up!” Another commented: “Since my daughter has started at this nursery she has really progressed and is coming home happy and full after a lovely day of playing and learning. We have really noticed how she is doing more, and we love to see what she gets up to while at nursery all day. “I know she has a great connection with the members of staff which makes dropping her off every morning easy as she loves it.” A grandparent added: “This nursery is outstanding. Both my grandchildren- different as chalk and cheese- benefitted from the care, support and attention offered. The carers were mindful of each child's differing needs and were very supportive in encouraging their development.” For more information about Kids Planet Solihull visit the website here.
