PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! British tourists could be turned away from Portugal after May 17 due to an ongoing EU travel ban. Holidaymakers from the UK who are jetting off to the European holiday hotspot as international travel resumes next Monday face being turned away, it has been reported. The government changed its lockdown rules earlier this week, with Monday May 17 proving to be step three out of lockdown as restrictions and measures are eased slightly. The easing allows international travel, according to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, with the introduction of a traffic light system. Among the countries on the green list is Portugal, with bookings soaring in the wake of the announcement, according to holiday firms and travel operators. But UK holidaymakers are now being warned.

. A senior Portuguese official told the Times: "If they don’t resolve it the alternative will be thousands of British visitors being turned away at the airport, which is not a good scenario." EU rules - at the time of writing - mean only people from a handful of countries can be allowed to enter for non-essential reasons. There are plans to look at the rules and expand the defintion of this, however. It could be changed to allow people from outside the bloc to enter if they have been fully vaccinated. Countries with a "good epidemiological situation" could also be welcomed.
