PremierLeague-News.Com - Breaking Sport Transfer News ! A pub that sparked debate after it revealed it was changing its name due to its "racist connotations" has one final hurdle to overcome before the change is permanent. The owners of The Black Boy in Shinfield have submitted plans which if approved will the pub change its name for good. An application has been made to Wokingham Borough Council which would see new signs added to the pub in Shinfield Road. Its owners decided to change its name to the Shinfield Arms in February after a public vote and are now putting that into action with plans for the new signs. The plans propose four external signs, a panel sign to be added to the "existing stone post and gibbet" and a plaque for the door. . While it is not known exactly where the pub's name comes from, there were fears within the pub company it was linked to racism and slavery. Speaking in February, managing director Wayne Shurvinton, explained: “Despite the obscure origins of the pubs’ previous names, from the research we carried out it was clear that there was a perception today that the old names were linked with racism, which is why we knew we had to take this step if we wanted to continue on our journey to become a truly anti-racist organisation." BerkshireLive spoke to Victor Koroma of Reading’s Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality (Acre), in February, who explained why he believed the name should change.
