Six fire crews were called to tackle the blaze in Bath Road at 11.13pm on Tuesday, August 2. Firefighters put out a blaze on the first floor of James Boston House, which is supported living accommodation for people with mental health needs. Police also attended the fire in Bath Road and officers remained at the scene on Wednesday morning. Peter Mukono, managing director of Kcare Health, which runs James Boston House, said: "The building was safely evacuated [after fire alarms went off]. There were no injuries to the staff or the other residents. All residents and staff are safe and that is our main priority. I would like to reassure the community that normal service has been resumed, we provide 24 hour staff to support our residents." He remains in custody at this time." A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 11.13pm on Tuesday, August 2, we received a call to a report of a fire at a residential property on Bath Road in Reading. Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road, Whitley Wood, Wokingham and Bracknell fire stations were sent to the scene, alongside the Aerial Ladder Platform from Whitley Wood Fire Station, two RBFRS Officers and supported by crews from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. "Upon arrival, crews confirmed a fire affecting the first floor of the property. Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reels. Crews were on the scene for approximately one hour and 22 minutes."
